The Sturgeon Moon
INTERGALACTIC GONG SHOW
Sunday August 30 7- 8:30 PM
Yoga Sanctuary Studio
Named after an ancient prehistoric fish who, at over 200 million years old, predates even the dinosaurs. The Sturgeon Moon is a time to recognize the inner sea monster in all of us. These deep, primitive parts of ourselves that have lived in the mud and muck at the bottom of the soul may—on or around this moon—rise to the surface, revealing buried and perhaps forgotten parts of ourselves, our past, our fears, our regrets that are ready to be held tenderly, recognized, remembered and then with kindness, gently released.
But it’s not just the past that gets buried in the darkness. New life gestates there as well. Because of this, we should know the ancient sturgeon may also bring something new, perhaps new understanding, new ways of being or even new versions of ourselves that need just another slight push or burst of energy to propel themselves into being.
The lesson is, nightmarish as these bottom-feeding fish may appear to be, these deep water dwellers come not to frighten us. They come to enlighten us. They bring ancient wisdom, perhaps even ancestral trauma. Sturgeons can live to be 150 years old and they want us to know, these former versions of ourselves (and maybe our ancestors) are not monsters at all. They are teachers. It is their vulnerability that leads them back to the surface… to the light… to consciousness… to be held. So that they can transition, dissolve and evolve into the ethers. Or, into new versions of ourselves.
Remember gestation and decay both occur in darkness. The sturgeon—also known as “the stirrer”—was here on this planet before we were. It understands the darkness more than we will ever know. Therefore, be not afraid. Be welcoming. Trust the process. Enjoy the difficulty.
For this gathering, we will turn hearts & minds toward the within and gently hold whatever rises to the surface, whatever lessons the ancient sturgeon can impart as we practice listening, holding, letting go and releasing that which no longer serves us. Namely, deeply held, old, outdated beliefs, emotions and former versions of ourselves that lay hidden in the muck and darkness. While at the same time, opening our hearts in case something new wants to step into the light.
Knowing this, ask, “What is this stirring beneath the surface? What is this that wants to leap from the water? What is it here to teach me?”
This can be intense. It can also be illuminating. Liberating. Instinctual. Ancestral.
So. Turn off your mind. Relax. Float downstream.
At the same time, please remember, enlightenment is optional.
