The Once in a Blue Moon

INTERGALACTIC GONG SHOW

Sunday May 31st 7- 8:30 PM

Yoga Sanctuary Studio

Anytime there is a second full moon in one Gregorian calendar month, it's called a blue moon, and they occur once about every two and a half years. Hence the term, “once in a blue moon!” Though this is a rare occurrence, it’s important to note that the moon will not actually turn blue nor will it appear blue-ish at all, so don’t be disappointed.

In fact, this brief piece of history from the 1937 Maine Farmer’s Almanac, offers important insight into the blue moon phenomenon:

“The Moon usually comes full twelve times in a year, three times in each season... However, occasionally the moon comes full thirteen times in a year. This was considered a very unfortunate circumstance, especially by the monks who had charge of the calendar. It became necessary for them to make a calendar of thirteen months, and it upset the regular arrangement of church festivals. For this reason thirteen came to be considered an unlucky number. Also, this extra moon had a way of coming in each of the seasons so that it could not be given a name appropriate to the time of year like the other moons. It was usually called the Blue Moon... In olden times the almanac makers had much difficulty calculating the occurrence of the Blue Moon and this uncertainty gave rise to the expression "Once in a Blue Moon."

This workshop/ceremony/ritual practice will celebrate May’s second full moon with a brief discussion of the 8 limbs of yoga, the power and significance of the moon as well as some historical context and analysis followed by an extra long gong bath featuring the INTERGALACTIC GONG SHOW.

To be clear, this is more than a sound bath, it’s a journey through vibration, stillness, and the vast inner landscape of the mind. Guided by the powerful resonance of four extraordinary gongs, attendees will be immersed in deep, meditative tones that invite the body to soften and the mind to quiet.

As sound ripples through the room like a sixth element, ancient, universal and alive, some may find themselves drifting beyond the edges of awareness… into spacious quietude, subtle awareness or something entirely unknown.

This is an invitation to let go, to rest deeply, and to explore the magic that unfolds when sound becomes both the guide and the exhibit.

So. Turn off your mind. Relax. Float downstream.

At the  same time, please remember, enlightenment is optional.
